A multi-modal embodiment of the in-car agent
Drop-lit is a design platform that allows for the exploration of an in-car agent’s embodiment design across physicality, characterization, and movement. It was designed to investigate how different embodiments of in-car agents affect the experience of information delivery.

The Drop-lit character is a fluidly moving agent within the vehicle, capable of adapting to various situations and responding to the driver’s needs. The system enables each embodiment element to be individually controlled or combined, providing a wide range of possibilities for how in-car agents can present and deliver information.

In terms of physicality, Drop-lit employs a ‘Mixed-Media’ approach, integrating both digital and physical environments to broaden how information is represented. Its visual features, such as adjustable eye shapes and e-shadows, are designed to convey emotions, motivations, and non-verbal cues. Additionally, the dynamic movement of Drop-lit’s wings and body enhances information delivery, creating more engaging interactions.

In this project, my role involved participating in design ideation sessions and developing the software components of the system. I also supported the study design and contributed to paper writing.
