Tele-Handwriter (TH) is a digital-analog hybrid medium for remote communication, utilizing handwriting. TH supports digital text communication using physical handwriting by instantly reproducing one person's handwriting through pen and paper on the other party's device. In this project, we sought to understand the value that slowness and physical effort, in contrast to the swifness and convenience of digital technology, can provide to people. Through several studies, we found that TH could deliver effort and sincerity in communication and increase intimacy by adding contextual cues during the writing process, leading to emotionally richer communication.
As a co-researcher on this project, I worked on the total redevelopment for performance improvement of the software system and produced additional interfaces for usability enhancement. I also supported the process of conducting user research and writing a paper.
